Business Roundtable – Help For Local Small Businesses
Posted on July 18th, 2009 No commentsThere is no doubt, we are facing difficult financial times. With the extra challenge that this presents, how can a business roundtable be helpful?
For people lucky enough to have full time employment, many are feeling insecure about the future of their jobs for the first time ever. The results; because they are unsure of what may happen, they spend less money.
Self employed people often really feeling the pinch. These are the people that offer the products and services that are being purchased less often. Because of this, they are constantly looking for ways to reinvent the product and services that they offer in order to keep up with the times. But where can they find help for this?
Have you heard that the more you give the more you receive?
We have found this to be so true as our twice monthly business roundtable develops. It was started in September of 2008 and is getting better all of the time. It is a great forum for business owners to offer help and advice to each other. There were a lack of small business meetings in our area in the evenings so we started one for the lots of small business owners that just can’t get to meetings during the day.
There are many networking opportunities around so another one did not seem necessary. What did seem necessary was a place for business owners to get answers and opinions to issues that they are dealing with today rather than another opportunity to market themselves.
So we started our own business roundtable. At the beginning, we came up with topics that we thought people would be interested in, kept a mailing list of people wanting to keep up with what we were up to and before each meeting sent an email blast about our topic to be discussed.
A few meetings ago, we were reminded of an approach that we had considered at the very beginning. We decided to try it out to see if it would get a positive response. Here is what we do.
At the beginning of each meeting, we ask everyone in attendance to let us know if there is a particular issue going on in their business that they would like input on. To our amazement, we gots lots of response. In fact, we felt bad that we did not have the time to get to everyone’s issues.
This new format guarantees that the topics discussed are specifically about what that nights attendees have on their minds RIGHT THEN AND THERE! We are dealing with up to the minute, current issues that they are looking for input on and we received great feedback from results of our discussions from lots of them.
Everyone’s time is so precious so the most important thing is to make the most of every minute that you are together.
